DOTDAT ARTIST FAQ

DOTDAT Collector FAQ

About DOTDAT

What is DOTDAT?

DOTDAT is an online marketplace that facilitates the sale of original artworks created by collegiate fine artists. DOTDAT provides technology, artist eligibility verification, and support tools that connect collectors and artists.

DOTDAT is not a gallery, dealer, broker, or auction house and does not take ownership, possession, or physical custody of artworks listed on the platform.

Is DOTDAT acting as my agent or advisor?

No. DOTDAT does not act as a fiduciary, financial advisor, art advisor, or agent for collectors.

All purchasing decisions are made at the collector’s sole discretion. Any educational or informational content provided by DOTDAT is for general informational purposes only and should not be considered investment, legal, or financial advice.

Artwork & Authenticity

How does DOTDAT verify artwork authenticity?

DOTDAT verifies artist eligibility through academic enrollment or recent graduation and requires artists to provide accurate artwork details and a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Artists are solely responsible for the originality, authorship, and accuracy of their work. DOTDAT does not independently appraise, scientifically authenticate, or guarantee the authenticity of any artwork and does not verify provenance, ownership history, or prior exhibition or sales records.

DOTDAT does not make legal determinations regarding fair use or intellectual property rights.

Does DOTDAT guarantee the future value of artwork?

No. DOTDAT makes no representations or guarantees regarding appreciation, resale value, or market performance.

Artwork purchases should be made for personal enjoyment, educational value, or to support emerging artists—not as financial investments.

Purchasing & Pricing

How are prices set?

Artwork prices are set solely by the artist. DOTDAT may provide general pricing guidance, but does not determine or control final pricing.

Prices may change at any time prior to purchase.

What fees do collectors pay?

Collectors are responsible for the purchase price, applicable taxes, shipping costs, and any disclosed platform or payment processing fees.

All applicable fees are clearly presented at checkout prior to purchase confirmation. The Terms of Service control.

Shipping & Delivery

How does shipping work?

Artists are responsible for properly packing and shipping artworks in accordance with DOTDAT guidelines. Shipping costs are calculated based on size, weight, and destination.

DOTDAT is not a shipping carrier, does not physically handle artworks, and does not provide shipping insurance.

When does risk of loss transfer?

Risk of loss transfers to the collector upon confirmed delivery to the shipping address provided at checkout.

What if artwork is damaged during shipping?

If artwork arrives damaged, collectors must notify DOTDAT within 48 hours of confirmed delivery and provide required documentation, including photographs and carrier information.

DOTDAT may facilitate communication between the collector, artist, and shipping carrier but is not liable for damage caused by third-party carriers, customs delays, or improper packing.

DOTDAT is not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including carrier disruptions, weather events, labor actions, or customs processing delays.

Returns & Disputes

What is the return policy?

Because artworks sold on DOTDAT are typically original and one-of-a-kind, all sales are final unless the artwork arrives materially damaged or materially not as described.

Returns based on personal preference, change of mind, or framing considerations are not accepted.

How are disputes handled?

DOTDAT may act as a neutral facilitator in disputes but does not guarantee outcomes. Resolution may depend on documentation, shipping carrier policies, and applicable law.

As permitted under DOTDAT’s Terms of Service and applicable payment processor rules, DOTDAT may withhold payment, cancel transactions prior to shipment or completion, or take other reasonable actions during dispute investigations. Certain disputes may be subject to binding arbitration as outlined in the Terms of Service.

Framing & Installation

Does DOTDAT provide framing or installation services?

No. DOTDAT does not provide framing, installation, conservation, or handling services.

Collectors are responsible for framing, installation, and post-delivery care of artwork.

Legal & Platform Use

Does purchasing artwork create any special rights?

No. Purchasing artwork does not transfer copyright, reproduction rights, or other intellectual property rights unless explicitly stated in writing.

Artists retain all intellectual property rights in their work.

Can DOTDAT remove listings or cancel transactions?

Yes. DOTDAT reserves the right to remove listings, suspend accounts, or cancel transactions in cases of policy violations, suspected fraud, intellectual property concerns, or legal or compliance issues.

Final Note

DOTDAT is designed to make collecting original art more accessible while respecting the legal, creative, and logistical realities of a peer-to-peer marketplace.

Use of the platform constitutes acceptance of DOTDAT’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and related agreements. Collectors are encouraged to review these documents and contact DOTDAT with any questions prior to purchase.
